When attempting to manage calories, one of the first things to drop off the grocery list is ice cream.  For many of us, it is just too tasty to adequately control our portions.  And when getting down into the lower calorie ranges, the portion size is just no longer substantial enough to be fulfilling.  While abstinence may work for some people, others find the craving for ice cream just grows larger and larger during a dieting phase until one morning you wake up next to three empty pints of Ben & Jerry's Fish Food.  Well, I have good news for both of those hypothetical cases, there is a middle ground.  Enlightened Ice Cream offers a multitude of ice cream flavors that are lower in calories than your classic ice cream, but also have better mouth feel than unsweetened shave ice.  While the "Keto" line of their products is fairly dense, the "Light" line of their products ends up about 400 calories per pint on average - about one-third the calories of the aforementioned Ben & Jerry's pint.  And in an attempt to make ice cream healthier, Enlightened includes about 8 grams of fiber per serving (from non-GMO soluble corn fiber) and about 6 grams of protein. If you are still worried about slamming a whole pint in one sitting, then you might consider going for Enlightened's Light Bars - these come portioned out in ~90 calorie bars so that as long as you don't head back to the freezer for round 2, you will only eat about 90 calories.  Enlightened does have a dairy-free variety as well which makes them a decent choice for all dairy avoiders.  However, many of their ice creams contain wheat, and soy - so be sure to check the label if you have food allergies or intolerances.  Enlightened also uses various types of sweeteners beyond sugar, including sugar alcohols, monk fruit sweetener, and allulose - so be careful if you have an aversion to any of these.  At the end of the day, managing your calories requires self-control, there is no way around this truth.  But no one said we had to make it hard on ourselves on purpose! So if you are the type that gets great satisfaction from sitting down with a dessert at the end of the night, try out Enlightened and see if it is able to scratch your itch for ice cream.
